- add 2 sts to each size to make this using DP needles or circular
needles

sport or baby yarn
Cast
on 54 sts for 3-4 lb
preemie (68 sts for 4-6
lbs; 74 sts for 7-9 lbs)
K2,
p2 to end of row
Do
this
for 40 rows (44, 48
rows)
Decrease:
k2, k2 tog through back loops.
Purl
next row
*k1,
k2 tog through back lps across
Repeat
dec * row until 11 sts remain
End
- Cut yarn leaving a 14" tail.
Run
needle and yarn through remaining sts on needle. Pull to draw
shut.
Sew
side seam,
Add
pompom to top if desired.

pointed needles

(you will need 4 needles)
Scraps of soft sock yarn or baby
yarn
Beanie is made in the round, and is approx 3" tall

on 40 sts for 1 - 1 1/2 lb preemie-- split them onto 3 needles
14, 14, 12 sts
K2,
p2 around for 24 rows
Decrease:
Knit 2 together around for
2
rows. Where you can't knit 2 together, just knit that 1 stitch.

- Cut yarn leaving an 8"" tail.
Run
needle and yarn through remaining sts on needle. Pull to draw
shut.
