Size G hook Hat should be
10.5" circumference and 6" tall
(F hook for preemie 8.5" across and 4.5" tall for medium preemie)
and soft sport
yarn or baby yarn (not fingering)
Ch 35 (28)
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch
from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1 and turn. 34 sts (27 sts)
Row 2: Sc in back
loops
only in each st across row. Ch 1 and turn.
Rows 3- 50 (44):
Repeat row
2. End off leaving 15" tail to stitch side seam.
Hat should measure 10.5" across before stitching to fit a newborn.
Fold in half widthwise and
whip-stitch seam shut.
Top
of hat:
Rnd 1: With right
side
out, make 50 (44) sc sts around the top of hat.
Join with sl st to first sc
made on top of hat. Ch 1 but do not turn.
Rnd 2: Sc in each of
the 50 (44) sc. Join with st st and ch 1.
Rnd 3: Sc in 1st sc,
*(sc 2 tog, sc in next st) repeat from * around.
Rnd 4: Sc 2 tog
around.
Rnd 5: Repeat rnd 4.
Then end off and add a pompom if you wish.
To make a larger infant hat use a soft worsted weight yarn and an H or
I hook.
