Many charities would love some of these little cuddly chicks, or set up a
Cuddle Box in your town.
Materials: Size G (4 mm) crochet hook
Yellow WW (#4) yarn and 2" of another color for head feathers
Small pice of orange felt for beak, Craft Glue
Black puffy pain
Polyester fiberfil for stuffing
AbbreviationsCh = chain
Sl = slip stitch
Sc = single crochet
Rnd = round
Sk = skip
Start: Leaving a 6" tail... chain 30 and join with a single crochet.
Rnds 1-3: sc around
(do not join, but you can place a marker at the beginning of each round. I just note where the starting tail of yarn is.)
Rnd 4: *sc 7, skip st, repeat from * around, sc in last few sts. (26 sts)
Rnds 5-6: sc in each sc around.
Rnd 7: *sc 5, skip st, repeat from * around (22 sts)
Rnds 8-9: sc around
Rnd 10: *sc 3, skip 1 st; repeat from * around. (15 sts)
Rnds 11-13: sc around
Rnds 14-15:
*sc, skip 1 sc; repeat around. This 2 rounds should leave you with 3 or
4 sts . End off. Sew the top together to close the hole. Weave
yarn back and forth and then inside.
Place a small amount of
fiberfil inside chick.
Using
a yarn needle, gather base of chicks by weaving in and out of each
stitch in the starting chain. Pull yarn gather tightly to close
opening. Weave yarn back and forth a few times to end off, then stitch
thread inside chick.
Cut a small orange felt
V shape for beak and glue this on.
Use puffy paint to make eyes.
Tie the alternate color yarn piece to top of head, and unravel yarn to make it fuzzy.
