Bev's Small Christmas Stocking

Size J (6 mm) Hook
1 oz of soft 4 ply worsted weight Christmassy colored yarn.
Measures 3 3/4" across top, Height 6", 5 1/2" across foot
Bottom of Stocking foot -- Ch 33
ROW 1: HDC in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 2 (counts as a HDC on next row), turn (31 hdc)
ROW 2 - 6: HDC in each hdc across row (31hdc). ch 2, turn.
ROW 7: HDC in each hdc across row (31 dc) - do not chain 2 at the end, just turn.
ROW 8 (top of bootie) : slip st in the first 6 dcs, ch 2 - in that 6th st- (counts as one hdc) hdc in the same st and then in each hdc across leaving 6 unworked at the end. Chain 2, turn
ROWS 9- 14 HDC in each dc across the 21 sts being sure to HDC into the very last stitch, ch 2 and turn (21 hdcs)
Last row #1: Sc into 1st st near hook, ch 3, sc in next st, repeat across to make a ruffle on the top. OR... Last row #2 (photo below): Alternate making a *FPDC and *BPDC across row, working the stiches in the front or back of the sts in the row below.
Finish off. ~Fold piece in half and *whip-stitch
closed using yarn and big eyed needle, starting at the top of the cuff,
working all the way down, and then across sole of the foot - this is the wrong side of the bootie. TURN stocking right side out and shape with your hands to make them more puffy and rounded.
Add yarn to top of cuff and chain 20 - slip stitch join at base of chain for a hanging loop
