6" KNITTED UMC BLANKET SQUARES

25 ~ 6" squares are needed for each 30" blanket 5 sq X 5 sq to include with our UMC MINI-KITS
Size 8 US (5 mm) knitting needles
Scraps of 4 ply soft, worsted weight (10 ply in Europe) - in pastels or cheerful, bright colors please!
INo matter how many squares you can make and send, we will combine them with others and make some beautiful blankets!
PLEASE weave in all ends!

Gauge: 4 sts = 1"   8 rows = 1"

UMC knit squares


Cast on 24 stitches 
(knit 2 rows and then measure to see if this is 6" across - if not, add to, or reduce number of stitches)
Rows 1- 48: Knit each row until square is 6".  (24 ridges)
Bind off.  Cut a 4" length of yarn and weave back inside squares.

These squares will be made into warm 30" stretchy blankets for babies born at UMC hospital in Vegas. Many babies born there do not have even a blanket, so we are making these as a gift of love to each of them from those of us with willing hearts and hands to help. Thank you!

Several yards of baby yarn  (PLEASE use baby yarn or #3 yarn so that squares are not too thick.)
Size G (4 mm) crochet hook

Ch 22
Row1: Sc in 2nd chain from hook and in each chain across; ch 1 and turn.  (21 sts)
Rows  2 - 24:  Sc in 2nd sc from hook and in each sc across row; ch 1 and turn.  (21 sts)

At end on row 24,  don't ch 1 and turn, instead cut a 4" length of yarn and weave back inside squares

Make 25 squares to create one blanket 5 sq X 5 sq
