This
pattern was given to me by a lady in our Stake of the Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Please do not place them on your
site, do NOT sell them or items made from them! I have made a few
adjustments to the pattern to make it easier to understand. If you make
these please consider either sending them to UMC in Vegas, or to a
hospital of your choice who need tiny items. These patterns are
posted with permission of Suzanne Fein - former director of volunteers
UMC Hospital.
CROCHETED PREEMIE HAT
(adjustments made by Beverly A. Qualheim 2006)
All rows are worked in back loop only (BLO) of each
stitch to create ribbing for stretch.
Using size F hook and baby yarn (Size G hook for
newborn size)
Chain 35
Row 1: sc in 2nd chain from hook, sc in each st
across. Ch 1, turn (34 sc)
Row 2: sc in BLO of first 27 sc except leave the
last 7 sts unworked. Ch 1, turn
Row 3: sc in BLO of each st across. Ch 1, turn (27
sc)
Row 4: sc in BLO back including the last 7 unworked
sts you skipped in row 2. Ch 1, turn (34 sc)
Repeat these 4 rows 14 times till you have 56 rows
(28 ridges)
Cut
yarn leaving a 36" tail. Using a large eyed sewing needle, thread yarn
and stitch the side seam shut by holding row 1 and row 56 together
matching sts. Weave the needle in and out of the top sts of the hat,
and pull tightly to gather the top. Back stitch 4 sts and cut yarn.
