Bev's TINY TEDDY BEAR (about 3" or so)
Copyright Beverly A. Qualheim 1986, 2017

I made several of these one year for my children to hang on the tree, but they are so sweet, they work great for any occasion.
This tiny teddy bear can fit in your purse or baby bag for those long car trips too.
Materials
Size F crochet hook, and small amount of 4 ply worsted weight yarn.
(Use a G hook to make a slightly larger bear.)
A little bit of polyester fiberfill to stuff teddy and yarn needle.

Start at the center top of head, ch 2. (Do not join rows, instead mark the end of each row with a piece of contrasting color yarn
between the 1st and last st of each row. Simply move the piece of yarn up to the next row as you go.)

  • ROW 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.
  • ROW 2: 2 sc in each st around - 12 sc.
  • ROW 3: *Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from * around - 18 sc.
  • ROWS 4-7: Work even in sc.
  • ROW 8: *Dec over next 2sc, sc in next sc, repeat from * around - 12 sc. Stuff head with fiberfill.
  • ROW 9 (neck): Dec over every 2nd sc around - 6 sc.
  • ROW 10: Work even in sc.
  • ROW 11: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, repeat from * around - 9 sc
  • ROW 12: *Sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from * around - 12 sc.
  • ROW 13: *2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 3 sc, repeat from * around - 15 sc.
  • ROW 14: *Sc in each of next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from * around - 18 sc.
  • ROW 15-16: Work even in sc.
  • ROW 17:*Dec over next 2 sc, sc in next sc, repeat from * around - 12 sc. Stuff body.
  • ROW 18: Dec over every 2 sc around - 6 sc. Sl st in next st and fasten off, leaving a 7" tail of yarn.

  • Using the yarn needle, draw the end of the yarn through sts of last row, pull tightly and secure with 3 tiny sts to end.
  • ARMS & LEGS (make 4): Ch 2.
  • ROW 1: 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook.
  • ROW 2:Work in back loops only, work even in sc.
  • ROWS 3-5: Working in BOTH loops now, work even in sc. At end of row 5, sl st in next sc. Fasten off,

  • leaving 8" tail of yarn. Stuff and sew to body in appropriate places.
  • NOSE & TAIL (make 2): Ch 3, 4 hdc in 3rd ch from hook, sl st in top of beginning ch to join. Fasten off,

  • leaving an 8" tail of yarn. Sew nose to center front of head and sew tail to bottom center of body back.
  • EARS (make 2): Ch 2, 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Fasten off leaving 7" tail of yarn. Sew to upper sides of head.

  • Split a 12" strand of black yarn into 2 ply strands. Embroider eyes and tip of nose by making 5 whip-stitches
over the same spot for each.
FINISH: Tie an 8" piece of shiny thin ribbon around bears neck.
If you are going to hang it on the Christmas tree this year, be sure to stitch a hanging loop of yarn to top of bears head.
