Materials needed:
Size H (5 mm) crochet hook
a few yards of kitchen cotton
scissors
sewing needle and thread
2 5/8" - 1" buttons for each holder (I used 5/8" buttons on the 4" child's holder)

ADULT size:  Ch 20 for 6" x 1"
(27 ch for 8" x 1"  larger adult head and , 13 ch for 4" x 1" for children

HDC into 2nd chain from the hook, and then in each chain across till the last one. 3 hdc into last chain.
Now hdc in the backside of each chain until you reach the final chain. Make 2 hdc into that one. Join with a slip stitch into the top of the first hdc.

Cut yarn with a 4" tail.  
Weave tail back and forth in the back of the holder to keep the stitches from unraveling.
Sew on a button at each end of holder.
