    Bev's "Josh" Beanie Cap
    based on a beanie hat Josh Groban used to wear

Gauge:  5 sts = 1"   

           Size 6 needles   65 sts  fits 2-4 year olds  72 sts for 5-8 yr olds  
           Size 8 needles  (4 mm) (75 sts for tweens) ( 82 sts for teens and adults)

(2 -3 oz sport yarn or soft worsted weight yarn/wool)

    Row 1-12: Garter st (knit every row) 
    Row 13: Purl
    Row 14: knit
    Rows 15-26: Garter stitch again for 12 rows
    Row 27: Purl
    Row 28: knit
    Rows 29-40: Garter st for 12 rows
    Row 41: Purl
    Row 42: Knit
    Rows 43-48: Garter st for ONLY 6 rows this time

If hat isn't tall enough, add a few more rows before decreasing.

    Decrease
    Row 49: *Knit 2, knit 2 together, Repeat from * to end of row.  Just knit any sts that don't fit into this pattern.
    Row 50: Knit 
    Row 51: Repeat row 49
    Row 52: knit
    Row 53: repeat row 49
    Row 54: knit
    You should now have about 28 sts left.  (It's NOT important to have exactly that many, by the way.)
    Row 55: Knit.  Cut yarn leaving a 12" tail of yarn.

    Now using a sewing needle, thread the yarn, and weave it into the sts on the knitting needle.  When all the sts are off, then pull the thread tightly to gather the top of the beanie cap.  Stitch the side seam shut with weaving stitch.

           Size 6 needles   65 sts  fits 2-4 year olds  72 sts for 5-8 yr olds  
           Size 8 needles  (4 mm) (75 sts for tweens) ( 82 sts for teens and adults)

About 2 ozs main + 3 colors of scraps in sport yarn or soft worsted weight or DK 8ply.

Size 6 needles cast on 65 (72) sts
Size 8 (4mm) needles cast on 75 (86) sts.

Rows 1-10: Garter stitch in main colour.
Rows 11-14: Stocking stitch in contrast 1, starting with a knit row.
Rows 15-24: Garter stitch in main colour.
Rows 25-28: Stocking stitch in contrast 2, starting with a knit row.
Rows 29-38: Garter stitch in main colour.
Rows 39-42: Stocking stitch on contrast 3, starting with a knit row.
Rows 43-48: Garter stitch in main for 6 rows.

If hat isn’t tall enough, add a few more rows before decreasing.

Decrease: Keep using main colour.

Row 49: #Knit 2, knit 2 tog, Repeat from # to end of row. Just knit any stitches that don’t fit into this pattern.
Row 50: Knit.
Row 51: Same as 49.
Row 52: Knit.
Row 53: Same as 49.
Row 54: Knit.
You should now have about 28 sts left. (It’s not important to have exactly that many, by the way).
Row 55. Knit.

Cut yarn, leaving a 12 inch tail of yarn. Thread through remaining stitches on needle & sew up.

Using size 6 (4 mm) needles & Double Knit/8 ply yarn (sport weight)

           Size 6 needles   65 sts  fits 2-4 year olds  72 sts for 5-8 yr olds  
           Size 8 needles  (4 mm) (75 sts for tweens) ( 82 sts for teens and adults)

Adult.Row: 1-8 Garter st in main colour.
Row: 9-12 Stocking St in 1st contrast colour, starting with a knit row.
Row: 13-20 Garter st in main colour
Row: 21-24 St st in 2nd contrast colour, starting with a knit row.
Row: 25-32 Garter st in main colour.
Row: 33 -36 St st in 3rd contrast colour, starting with a knit row.
Row: 37-44 Garter st in main colour.
Row 45-48 St st in 4th colour, starting with a knit row.

For 4 larger sizes only - Garter st until work measures 6 inches from cast on edge.

All Sizes - Decrease for crown

All right side rows - Knit 2, Knit 2 tog, Repeat from # until end of row. Just knit any stitches left.

All wrong side rows - Knit.Repeat last 2 rows until about 20 stitches remain.
Thread needle through remaining stitches & sew up seam.


Rainbow Beanie

Using size 6 (4 mm) needles & Double Knit/8 ply yarn (sport weight)

           Size 6 needles   65 sts  fits 2-4 year olds  72 sts for 5-8 yr olds  
           Size 8 needles  (4 mm) (75 sts for tweens) ( 82 sts for teens and adults)

Adult. Row: 1-8 Garter st in main colour (you can use fun fur on these rows)
Row: 9-40 Stocking stitch - change colour every 4 rows or when you want to add stripe, or you can stay with the main colour or knit until 4 inches from cast on edge for Baby & 5 inches for Toddler size.

Larger sizes - Continue your st st pattern until work measures 6 inches from cast on edge.All sizes - Decrease for crown.
All right side rows: knit 2, Knit 2 tog, repeat from # until end of row. knit any remaining stitches.
All wrong side rows: Purl.
Repeat last 2 rows until about 20 stitches remain.
Thread needle through these remaining stitches & sew up seam.

Flurry Brim circular Hat

Using size 6 (4 mm) circular needles 40cm long & Double knit/8 ply & Flurry 10ply

           Size 6 needles   65 sts  fits 2-4 year olds  72 sts for 5-8 yr olds  
           Size 8 needles  (4 mm) (75 sts for tweens) ( 82 sts for teens and adults) 
then place stitch marker. Join & knit in round.Cast on with Double Knit yarn. Join & place marker.Change to flurry

Row 1: Knit
Row 2: Purl
Repeat first 2 rows until 6 rows for Baby & Toddler size & 8 rows for larger sizes are complete.
Now knit every row until 4 inches for Baby & 5 inches for Toddler & 6 inches for other sizes.(You can add stripes).All sizes decrease for crown
First row & every alternate row - knit 2, knit 2 tog, repeat from *to end of row. knit other sts.
Second row & alternate row - knit
Repeat last 2 rows until about 20 sts remain. Thread needle through remaining stitches & fasten off.


 

DK Rolled Brim Hat

Use circular needles size 6 (4 mm) with DK 8ply yarn

           Size 6 needles   65 sts  fits 2-4 year olds  72 sts for 5-8 yr olds  
           Size 8 needles  (4 mm) (75 sts for tweens) ( 82 sts for teens and adults)

Join & knit in the round for 4 inches for Baby & 5 inches for Toddler & 6 inches for other sizes.
Place marker near start join.
Dec
1st row -* knit 2, knit 2 tog from * until end of row knitting any remainder stitches.
2nd row - knit
Change to dpns when not enough sts for circular.Repeat last 2 rows until about 20 sts remain
Thread needle through remaining sts & fasten off.
