Teddy - The Gift Giver

Designed to hold a small gift such as a ring box or small jewelry box.
About 8 inches high.

Material List:
Worsted weight 4 ply yarn:
30 yards of Body color (your choice)
Scraps for Mitten color, Hat color, and Scarf color
Size G hook (larger hook if you want it bigger)
Small amount of fabric paint
Gauge is not required

Note:
This pattern is worked in rounds and will not be joined unless specified. The pattern is not written in rounds but rather, segments. Each segment is on a separate line for easier following.

Head:
Ch 2, 7 scs in 2nd ch from hook,
sc in next 9 sts,
3 hdc in next 3 sts,
sc in next 4 sts,
hdc in next 2 sts,
2 hdc in next 5 sts,
hdc in next 2 sts,
sc in next 6 sts,
(hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st) 5 times,
hdc in next st,
sc in next 11 sts,
(sl.st., ch2, 3dcs, ch2, sl.st.) in next st. (ear made)
sc in next 6 sts,
make 2nd ear in next st,
sc in next 16 sts, ch1 behind ear, sc in next 7 sts, ch1 behind ear,
sc in next 16 sts, sc in ch1 space, sc in next 7 sts, sc in ch1 space,
sc in next 6 sts,
(skip 1 st, sc in next st) 2 times,

(sc in next 3 sts, 2 scs in next st) 6 times,
(sc in next 30 sts) 10 times,
(skip 1 st, sc in next st) 16 times,
stuff tightly
(skip 1 st, sc in next st) 6 times
fasten off and sew hole shut and weave in end of yarn

Legs:
Note: lightly stuff toe area only
Ch2, 7 scs in 2nd ch from hook,
2 scs in next 7 sts,
(sc in next 14 sts) 2 times,
(skip 1 st, sc in next st) 3 times (toe area formed)
(sc in next 11 sts) 6 times,
sc in next 2 sts,
sl st in next st,
fasten off leaving a thread for sewing.

Arms:
Note: Worked in rounds. Join at the end of each row with a slip st.
Rnd 1...ch 2, 5 scs in 2nd ch from hook, join
Note: (ch 1, sc, in joining st counts as first sc at the beginning of each row)
Rnd 2...2 scs in first 5 sts, join
Rnd 3-7... sc in next 10 sts, join
Rnd 8... attach mitten color in the sl st of joining, sc in next 10 sts, join. (1st arm)Rnd 9...sc in next 3 sts, 3 hdc in next st (thumb), sc in next 6 sts, join
(2nd arm)Rnd 9... sc in next 6 sts, 3 hdcs in next st (thumb), sc in next 3 sts, join

Fasten off and sew fingers together and stitch thumb through 1st hdc and 3rd hdc. Weave in ends.

Hat:
Note: do not join...work in segments
With hat color, Ch2. 6 scs in 2nd ch from hook,
2 scs in next 6 sts,
(sc in next st, 2 scs in next st) 6 times,
(sc in next 18 sts) 2 times,
ch 3, skip 2, sc 5, ch 3, skip 2 sts (ear holes,
sc in next 4 sts,
attach mitten color and (sc in 20 sts) 5 times
Fasten off and weave in ends

Scarf:
With hat color, ch 30 loosely, fasten off
Attach yarn in 1st ch worked, sc in back ridge* across,
Fasten off,
Attach mitten color in last sc made, sl st in back loop across ,
Fasten off. Add more fringe and top puff if desired.
* Turn chain over and see the ridge between the front loop and back loop...this in the back ridge.

Assembly:
Sew arms at shoulder area loosely so they can be moved.
Sew top of legs together and sew to bottom front of body so they are just hanging in the front of the teddy.
Sew head on top of body. Placing head at an angle or tilted up or down will give the teddy a little personality :o)
