Materials:
Size 10 Southmaid Crochet Cotton ...Black
Size 10 Southmaid Crochet Cotton ...Red
Size 5 steel hook or size to acquire gauge
3/4" diameter rubberband
3 size 4 snaps
Gauge:
9 sts = 1"
10 rows = 1"
NOTE: This pattern was designed for the new Ken doll which is a little shorter. Alteration for the Original Ken will be added where needed.
JACKET:
R1...With black, ch49, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 47 chs (48sts)
NOTE: ch 1, turn, at end of each row unless otherwise stated.
R2-R3...sc over 48 sts.
R4...sc over 14 sts, skip 1 st, sc over next 4 sts, skip 1 st, sc over next 8 sts, skip 1 st, sc over next 4 sts, skip 1 st, sc over next 14 sts (44sts)

With right side facing you (loose black thread from chain will be on your left), and red thread,

COLLAR:
First side:

R2-R3..sc over 16 sts, fasten off
Second side:
R1..with right side facing you, attach black in 1st unused st from first side, (ch1, sc) in same st, sc in next 2 sts, hdc in corner, sc 8 sts evenly over shoulder, hdc in corner, sc in next 4 sts
R2-R3..sc over 17 sts, fasten off
Weave in ends and cut off.
Trim:
with red, do a running st around collar

Sew seams together, center seam in bottom of armhole and sew sleeve in arm hole easing in the excess at cap.
PANTS:
R1...attach black to rubberband, ch1, sc 50 sts around rubberband, join, (ch 1, turn, now and throughout)
R2..sc in same st as joining and in next 49 sts, join
R3-R19..rep R2 16 times, fasten off and weave in ends and cut off
First leg:
R1...ch 3, with right side facing you, sc in center back and next 24 sts, ch 4, turn
R2..sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 2 chs, sc over next 25 sts, sc in next 3 chs (31sts)
R3..sc over 31 sts
R4-R43..rep R3 32 times
R44...sc over 4 sts, (skip next st, sc in next st) 12 times, sc in last 3 sts (18sts) fasten off
Second leg:
R1...with right side facing you, ch 3, sc in 1st unused st from center front, and in next 24 sts, ch4, turn

Sew crotch together, then inside of legs.

Uppers:
Rnd 1...starting at side of sole (1st hdc of Rnd2 of sole), attach thread in back loop, (ch1, sc) in same st, continue working in back loops, sc in next 29sts, (join, ch1, do not turn)now and throughout. (30sts)
Rnd 2...sc in joining st, sc over next 29 sts

Note: pull the sts after the skip 1 a little tight to close hole.

Jacket front insert:

Sleeve cap:

continue with 2sc in first and last st of each row until there is 13 sts.
fasten off leaving a 8"-10" thread for sewing
Sew jacket insert to front of Jacket with the longer end of the triangle on the left side. Take a few stitches in center of insert to prevent bulging.
Sew Sleeve cap in place making sure the 13scs are across shoulder & match with the black section of front and back section.
The back has one side 2 sts larger, sew snaps to front of that side and on the back of the other side.
With fabric tube paint place 3 or 4 dots on collar depending on rank.
With a heavy piece of cardboard (about the thickness of the back of a writing tablet) ...paint a section gold and one section silver...cut a small oval from the gold section and a small triangle (Star Trek style)...glue the silver over the gold and glue to front of jacket.
