Michelle's Preemie-Newborn Booties and Hat

Materials: Baby or sport weight yarn
Size 5 needles (3.75 mm)

Sizes: Preemie small (medium, large, full term)
Cast on 25 (29, 35, 41).
K 8 (10, 12, 14) rows in garter stitch.

Begin decreases:
K 10 (12, 15, 18), K2 tog , K 1, K 2 tog, K 10 (12, 15, 18).  P 9(11, 14, 17), P2 tog P1, P2 tog, P9 (11, 14, 17). Continue decrease pattern until 17 (19, 23, 27) stitches left.

Ribbed Cuff:
K1, P1 across each row for 4 (5, 6, 7) rows.  Double the rows for a fold down cuff. Bind off loosely.
Sew back and sole of bootie.

Pattern for Booties: Michelle's Booties
Yarn: Bernat Softee Baby (Sport D.K.)
Needles: US 5 (3.75 mm)
Finished Size: 3-5 lbs
Notes and Changes:
CO 25 sts. Work garter stitch rows and decreases. Work a K1,P1 rib for five rows, then work three rows of seed stitch. Bind off in pattern. For a special touch, add a store bought ribbon flower to each little shoe.

And little hat
Pattern for Hat: Knitted Preemie Hat
Yarn: Bernat Softee Baby (Sport D.K.)
Needles: US 5 DPN (3.75 mm)
Finished Size: 3-5 lbs (circumference = 11")
Notes and Changes:
CO 56 sts. Work seed stitch pattern for 1". Knit until 4" from CO edge. Work decreases. Pull yarn through remaining stitches and secure. Top with a ribbon flower. Turn up edge to form cuff.




Michelle's Preemie Hat to match

Small Preemie to Full Term Hat
(with fold up cuff)
 

Materials: Baby sport weight yarn
Size 5 double pointed needles (You could do this on regular needles also but then the even rows will be purled.)
Sizes: S, M, L, FT (9", 10 ¼", 11 ½", 13")
Gauge: 5 ½ st = 1"

Cast on 50, 56, 64, 70 stitches. Rib 2, (2 ½, 2 ½, 3) inches.
Continue in stockinette stitch for 1 ½, (2, 2 ½, 3) inches.

Begin decreases.
Row 1: Knit 2 tog, K 3, (5, 6, 5). Continue across.
Row 2: Knit.
Row 3: Knit 2 tog, K 2, (4, 5, 4). Continue across.
Row 4: Knit.
Continue to decrease in same manner until K2 tog around row- continue to K2 around until 5 or 6 st left. Cut yarn with tail. Run through stitches left. Tie off and weave in ends.
