Grandma Liz's's Hat
Copyright Beverly A. Qualheim 2008,2014- All Rights Reserved
My mom knitted me a hat for college in Wisconsin many years ago. I still wear it, and decided a few years ago I should try to make one just like it and  write down a pattern to share on Bev's Country Cottage.  This is that hat!  Fun to knit and so cute!

Size - older teen or woman (man)
Needles: Size US 5 and 6
(you can use larger needles for a larger hat but I wanted these to be a tighter weave, and to make it look just like the hat my mom made me.)

4 oz of worsted weight yarn (1 skein will work)

You can make this hat larger by adding more rows.
Make a child's size hat by using smaller needles (3 and 4) and sport weight, sock, or baby yarn)

Using smaller needles: Cast On 90 sts for brim
Knit 4 1/2" (5") of Ribbing in Knit 3, Purl 3

Switch to larger needles: and knit in 'double seed stitch' Knit 2, purl 2, for 4 1/2". (5")
*Decrease: Knit 2 together across row (45 left)
*Purl
*Knit 2 together across row (23 left)
*Purl
*Knit 2 together across row (12 left)
Cut the yarn, use a yarn needle to weave through leftover stitches. Pull tightly and sew up side seam.
