My husband
recently was in a bad moped accident here in Logandale and was
air-flighted to UMC Hospital in Las Vegas' trauma unit. While he
was being treated for his broken neck, for several days at UMC I stayed
with him as much as I could. While he slept, I knitted and
crocheted a few newborn hats. I took them up to the maternity
floor and the ladies at the reception desk there were SO thankful for
those 7 hats. You would have thought I had handed them a bag of
gold, not little hats. I wished I had had about 30 hats to give
them!
So, I decided to make UMC my main project for 2009, to especially make
a total of 500 newborn hats, booties and maybe a quilt or two.
UMC is the county hospital and they receive any and all patients in
need, whether they can pay or not, have insurance or not, or are
homeless and distitute. Many babies are born there every week who
are born into poverty and are in need of clothing in fact there are 15-20 babies born
there every day and UMC wants to make sure each baby that leaves UMC
has clothing to take with them. So that's where we come in. Even
if you can knit up one little hat it will help warm a little one.
They can use anything for newborns really but the list below are items
most needed. If you would like to join me, Bev Qualheim, in
making as many needed items as I possibly can for them in 2009 please
do!
Here is a PAGE OF Baby PATTERNS you can use,
