Bev's Knitted Beanie Topper

Size 15 knitting needles

3 oz baby yarn or fingering yarn
3 oz red heart kids yarn (the bright colored stuff!) or any 4 ply worsted weight yarn
You will be using the 2 yarns together throughout.
Cast on 39 sts fits ages 8-12 (43 fits adult)

Row 1- 30 (34 rows): Knit every row.
Make an eyelet row to thread a pull-tie through
Eyelet row
K1, yarn over, k2 tog. -- repeat across the row
Knit 5 rows
Cast off leaving a 12" piece of yarn for side seam.
Strings: Size H hook, chain 75.  Make 2. Tie these together at each end.
Thread through eyelet opening near the top.  Pull tightly to gather and tie shut.
FINISH:  Seam up sides

You can knit this in the round too but it will not have the garter stitch 'bumpy rows' unless you do every other row in purl stitch.
