Bev's Versions of the GUIDEPOSTS SWEATER for babies

Bev's Top-Down Guideposts Sweater for a Toddler/ Small Child
(15 months -18 months), (2-4 year olds)

Bev's guideposts sweater
Gauge: 4 stitches = 1 inch; 8 rows = 1inch
Needle Size: US Size 9 ( mm) circular throughout
(8 oz worsted weight yarn or wool/wool blend)

Back and Front (make 2):

Starting at the top (shoulders) With circular needles and main color, cast on 90 (125) stitches. Knit for 5"  (This forms arms)
Bind off 25 (36) sts. and knit across. (now working on body of sweater)
Bind off 25 (35) more sts for other arm, and knit across.
Knit for about 9"
(I did about 8" and then did a ribbing of knit 2, purl 2 for 6 rows) Bind off.

Make another piece the same and then stitch the front of the sweater to the back leaving about 8" open at the top for the head.

Sizes: Child’s sizes 6 months - 1 year  (15 months -18 months), (2-4 year olds)
Yarn: medium to heavy worsted-weight wool or acrylic, 2 or more colors if you want stripes.
Amount: 5 oz  (7 oz)

Gauge: 4 stitches = 1 inch; 8 rows = 1inch
Needle Size: US Size 9 (  mm) throughout;

Back and Front (make 2):
With  cast on 39 (45) (55) stitches. Knit for 7 (9)  (10.5") inches.  End by working a wrong side row.

Sleeves:
Add on 20 (30) (35) stitches loosely for the first sleeve and knit across 59 (75) (90). Row 2: Add on 20 (30) (35) stitches loosely for the second
sleeve and knit across.  You should now have a total of 79 (105) (125) stitches. Continue in garter stitch until sleeve measures 4 1/2"
(5"). End by working a wrong side row. Bind off loosely.

Make another sweater piece the same. 

Finishing:
Sew shoulder seams leaving a 7" (8") (8.5") neck opening. Sew sleeve and sides together in one continuous seam using a whip stitch.

Neckline
Sc around the neckline, once or twice depending on your preference.  You can use a contrasting color, ie the one used for stripes.
