STUDY
GUIDES
There
are
many
ways to mark your scriptures, and you likely have your own methods that
work great! Whatever makes it easier for you to go back and find
what you want is good. =)
Here
are a
few
helps though. I like to combine them personally, and have like 3
different methods in my scriptures.
COLORED
PENCIL underlining
- Red = References to the Godhead
or underline the words of Christ with red
- Blue = Charity, Services
- Yellow = Faith, Hope
- Green = Salvation, Eternal Life
doctrines
- Purple = scriptures that
really mean a lot to you personally. Ones that touch your soul.
MARGIN
NOTES
I
often
take
notes in my margins. I write about the event going on, or my
personal feelings studying that verse and so forth. You can color
a little red pencil heart by the scriptures that really touch
your heart too!
*** Don't use a red, purple or pink pen to write though! I have
noticed that after a few years, those colors tend to bleed. I use
black or blue.
POST - IT (TM) NOTES
These are so handy to write longer notes about what is going on and
then just stick it in the margin. Sometimes in Gospel Doctrine, the
teacher will say something profound and I have to write it down and
keep it there for future reference.
eg: Doctrine and Covenants 27:15-18 has the passage about putting on
the whole armor of God
So on a blue post-it-note I wrote down what each item stands for:
LOINS -girt about with
TRUTH
BREASTPLATE of
RIGHTEOUSNESS
FEET -Gospel of PEACE
SHIELD of FAITH
HELMET of SALVATION
SWORD of the SPIRIT
You can do this for whatever strikes you as important to you.
STICKERS
You can purchase special clear stitckers to place over
key
verses in the scriptures. Be careful not to underline or
highlight those scriptures before placing a sticker on it as you will
have a hard time reading it! ('specially when you are in your
40's like me and can't see the print anyhow!!)
You can also cut small pictures out of the Ensign and glue stick them
in the margins near the text the artist used to paint that particular
scripture.- I love doing this! I have a small one of Christ
blessing the children which I have placed in 3 Nephi 17.
