Snowman Hat
(newborn size)

MATERIALS:
1 oz. Blue worsted
2 oz. White worsted
Size 8 needles (single point, circular and dp needles)
G Hook (for ties)
yarn needle
small amount of black and orange yarn for embroidery
stuffing

HAT:
Cast on 60 sts w/blue.
Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 3”.
Change to white and work in stockinette stitch for 3.5-4”.

Decrease as follows (switch to dp needles or use 2 circulars) to form head of snowman:
*K3, k2tog, repeat from * around.
Knit 1 round even.
*K2, k2tog, repeat from * around.
Knit even in stockinette st for 2.5”.

Decrease head of snowman as follows:
*K1, k2tog, repeat from * around.
Knit 1 round even.
*K2tog, repeat from * around.
Cut yarn, weave through, pull tight; end off.

Cut a strand of white yarn and weave it through the stitches in the row above the 2nd rnd of decreasing on main hat.  Stuff  head & embroider eyes/nose/mouth with black for eyes/mouth and orange for nose.  End off, weave in ends.

Blue scarf:
With blue, cast on 60 sts.  Knit 3 rows garter stitch, cast off; weave in ends.

Blue snowman hat:
With blue, cast on 36 sts.
Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 3.5”
Decrease as follows:
*K2tog, P2tog, repeat from * across.
*K1, P1, repeat from * across.
*K2tog, P2tog, repeat from * across.
Cut 12” yarn, weave through sts and pull tight, sew back seam.
Fold up for “cuff”, tack in place; sew cap to top of snowman head.

Make 2 ties:
Using size G hook, ch 50, sl st back across, end off.
Tie to sides of hat, weave in ends.
