Here is a simple pattern with a seed stitch border. Multi-colored yarn will just add to the beauty but would recommend that you only do a row or so of each color to keep it varied. Enjoy
SEED
STITCH BORDER Afghan/lapghan (with Preemie size below)
(knitted)
(this border could be used
with any other patterns in the center)
Size: Approximate: 36 x 40
Materials: Worsted weight
yarn, 18-20 ounces. 14 inch straight knitting needles size 11
Pattern stitch: Seed
Stitch Row 1: Knit 1, * purl 1, knit 1; repeat from * across row.
Repeat this row for pattern.
(remember that with seed stitch you will be knitting the purl stitches
and purl on the knit stitches)
Instructions:
Cast on 125 stitches loosely
Rows 1-10: Work in seed stitch.
Row 11: Knit 1, (purl 1, knit
1) 3 times, knit 111, knit 1, (purl 1, knit 1) 3 times.
Row 12: purl where you knit
in row 11.
Repeat Rows 11 and 12 until
work measures 39 inches from cast-on edge. Then repeat Rows 1-10 once more
and Bind off in seed stitch. Weave in all ends.

10 oz soft 4 ply yarn
Size 11 cable needle
Cast on 58 stitches
loosely
Rows 1-6: Work in seed stitch.
Row 7: Knit 1, (purl 1, knit
1) 2 times, knit to last 5 sts, knit 1, (purl 1, knit 1) 2 times.
Row 8: purl where you knit
in row 7.
Repeat Rows 7 and 8 until work
measures 20 inches from cast-on edge. Then repeat Rows 1-6 once more. Bind
off in seed stitch. Weave in all ends.
