SOFT SPORT YARN
F HOOK
SIZE measures 6 inches across the chest in the front.
Maybe a medium preemie
ROW 1. Chain 36, DC in 4 th chain from hook and
in the next 4 chains. In
the next chain work 2 DC, ch 2, 2 DC, DC in next 5, work 2 DC, ch 2, DC 2, DC in next
10, work Shell, DC in next 5, work shell, DC in last 4 .
ROW 2. Chain 4 and turn, skip 1, dc in next, ch 1, skip 1, dc, cont. across remembering to work (2 DC, ch 2, 2 DC) in ch 2 spaces.
ROW 3. DC to first space, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc, cont. across.
ROW 4. Repeat Row 2
ROW 5. DC to first space, work 2 DC in space, skip stitches until the next space, work 2 dc, DC across to next space, work 2 dc in space, skip stitches until the nect space, 2 dc in next space, dc to end.
SKIRT: This is very pretty in just double crochet, or, Chain 3 and turn, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc,
( V st.) in next stitch, skip 1 stitch, work Vst in next stitch. Cont. across. Do this for desited length, I like 9 to 11 inches.
SKIRT TRIM: Chain 3 at one end of skirt, work 2 DC, 1 TR, 2 DC, slip in next stitch, and repeat across.
SLEEVES: Join yarn at bottom of one side of the sleeve opening, ch 3, work Vst around to the bottom of the other side, I got 9 V sts. Do 4 rows of this, back and fourth. Now either, chain 20-25 stitches and sc around edge of sleeve, chain 20-25 and end off.
CHAIN 25-30 stitches and place evenly spaced, in three places, on back for closing.
Try doing the sleeves in V st. and the skirt in double crochet. Notice the bottom edging.
When I do a boy's gown, I do one row of v st across front, and then double crochet. That allows it to flare out just a bit.
BOY'S VERSION: DC sleeves and skirt, No trim on bottom of skirt.
GIRLS: Something special I do. I purchased small plastic gold heart charms, and tied them onto the girl's gowns.
