Sizes for making various items

Head Size Chart - knitted or crocheted hats should be made about 1- 1 1/2" smaller than the head circumference, as the hat will stretch and sizes are not an exact science! If you make it, someone will fit into it. =)  Height includes a brim.  They can be made taller if you want a large brim.

Preemies:
1 -2 lbs
Baby's Head Circumference is 9" - 10"  (so hat circ. should be about 7.5" -8"Height of hat should be 3.5 - 4"

2 - 3 lbs
Head Circumference 10" - 11 1/4"  hat circ = 8.5" - 10"   Hat height  = 4"

4 - 5 lbs 
Head Circumference 11 1/2" - 12 1/2"  hat circ = 9" - 11.5"  Hat height = 4 to 4.5" 

5 1/2 - 6 lbs 
Head Circumference 12 1/2" - 13" hat circ = 11" - 12"  Hat height =  5 to 5.5"

Newborn 
Head Circumference 13" - 14 "  hat circ = 11.5" - 13" Hat height = 5.5 to 6"

Baby - 3 to 6 months  
Head Circumference: 14" - 17 "  Hat height= 6.5 - 7"

Baby 6 to 12 months
Head Circumference: 16" - 19 "   Hat height = 7.5"

Toddler - preschooler (12 months - 3 years)  Hat height = 8"
Head Circumference: 18" to 20 "

Child (3 - 10 years)  Hat height =8.5"
Head Circumference: 19" - 20 1/2" 

Pre-teens and Teens  Hat height 9-10"
20 1/2" - 22"

Adult Woman
Circumference: 21 - 23 1/2"  Hat height = 11"  - that includes a roll up brim

Adult Man
Circumference: 22 - 24 1/2"  Hat height = 11"-11.5"  - that includes a roll up brim

Please know that Babies vary greatly in dimensions so most sizes will fit someone.

Small Preemie: 18" - 20" square
Medium Preemie: 20" - 22" square
Large Preemie: 22" - 28" square
Full Term Baby: 28" - 36" square

Baby  30" x 36" = crib sized (6" granny squares= 5 across x 6 down ~ 30 sq)
Children  42"x 48"  (6" squares= 7 across x 8 down ~ 30 sq)
Lapghan often used in seniors homes 36" x 48" (6" squares= 6 across x 8 down ~ 48 squares)
Adult Afghan (Will fit across top of bed)  48" x 72" = twin sized.  (6" squares= 8 across x 12 down ~ 96 squares)
Adult Double Bed 
(Will fit across top of bed)  60" x 84" = full sized.  (6" squares= 10 across x 14 down ~ 160 squares)
