Child’s Ski Hat with Ear Flaps

(Fits 3-5 year old)

Supplies Needed:

Caron Simply Soft yarn (4 colors) or any other soft worsted weight yarn

Size H crochet hook

Yarn needle

A=Yellow

B=Green

C=Blue

D=Purple

( I used Caron Simply Soft Brites)

With A, chain 65, Join to first CH with SS

Round 1-3,  Ch 2, HDC in each ST around, changing to B in last HDC of round 3

Round 4-6,  Repeat 1-3, changing to C in last HDC of round 6

Round 7-9,  Repeat 1-3, changing to D in last HDC of round 9

Round 10-12,  Repeat 1-3, changing to A in last HDC of round 12

Round 13,  Ch 2, HDC in next 4 ST, HDC DEC over next two st *HDC in next 5, HDC DEC over next two ST* repeat from * to * around to last 2 HDC, HDC DEC over last two ST

Round 14-15,  Repeat row 1, changing to B in last HDC of row 15

Round 16-18,  Repeat rows 13-15, changing to C in last HDC of round 18

Round 19-21,  Repeat rows 13-15, changing to D in last HDC of row 21

Round 22-24,   Repeat row 13-15, changing to A in last HDC of round 24

Round 25-28,  Repeat 13-15, changing to B in last HDC of row 28

Round 29-31, Repeat 13-15 changing to C in last HDC of row 31

Round 32-35, Repeat 13-15, changing to D in last HDC of row 35

Round  36, Repeat row 13

Round 37, CH 2  *DEC, HDC * repeat from * to * around

Round 38, Repeat row 37

Round 39, CH 2, HDC DEC around, finish off leaving long tail

EAR FLAPS

With B, chain 6

#1, HDC in 3^rd Ch and in each CH across

#2, INC row, CH 2, 2 HDC in first HDC, HDC in each until last ST, 2 HDC in last ST, changing to C in last St

#3, HDC in each ST across

#4, Repeat #3

#5, Repeat #3, changing to D in last ST

#6, Repeat #3

#7, Repeat #4

#8, repeat #4

Do NOT finish off! With RS of hat facing, sc ear flap to hat 9 ST from center back (center back is first joining) repeat for second ear flap

TRIM, TIES

With A, join with SS @ center back. SC in same stitch and in each ST to ear flap.

SC down first side of Ear flap.

Sc in corner of ear flap, SC DEC in next two stitches.

CH 50, SS in first CH from hook, SS in each CH, returning to flap. SC DEC, 3 SC in corner ST. SC up other side of ear flap

SC across front of hat.

Repeat for flap 2 as for flap 1

continue with sc to first SC of trim, tie row. Finish off.

Finishing,

Using yarn needle, weave in all ends, using long tail left at top of hat, sew closed

Add tassle or pom-pom as desired
