Fun, colorful and easy ripple afghan for baby, or make the larger version using a larger hook.

You need about 1000 yds of yarn (about 900 metres)  (You will likely have some left to make hats etc--better too much than too little!)

Crochet hook size G (4 mm) and baby #3 weight yarn  =  30" blanket (Make as long as you want)
Crochet hook size H (5 mm) Several colors of soft #4 worsted weight yarn = approx. 42" blanket width.
(Worsted weight blanket measures 40" x 56"  But you can make it as long as you want.  We had 2 in this size and it worked great for her as a baby and to drag around the house as a toddler, and now we have them for grandbabies coming to visit grandma-Bev, still in good shape!)

Chain 152   (or multiples of 15 + 2)   (Chain 77 for a preemie or dolly blanket)
ROW 1: 2 sc into 2nd ch from the hook.  *Sc into next 6 ch, skip 2,  sc into each of next 6 chs, 3 sc into next ch, repeat from * 8 more times.  Sc in next 6 ch, skip 2, sc in next 6 ch, 2 sc in last ch.  Ch 1, turn. (RIGHT SIDE)

Row 2: from now on sc in the back loop of each stitch.  2 sc in first sc, *sc in each of next 6 sc, skip 2 sc, sc in next 6 sc, 3 sc in next sc (which should be the middle of the 3 sc of row 1). Repeat from * 8 more times.  Then sc in next 6 sc, skip 2, sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1 and turn. Repeat row 2 for the entire afghan.

Repeat Row 2 throughout.  Finished blanket should measure about 4' long (5' for larger blanket) or desired length. Change colors after every 4 rows or so. This is a very flexible pattern

I have seen ripples with color changes mid-row.... just depends on the look you want. (BevQ)
