Bev's OLD FASHIONED TOBOGGAN CAP

Keep those little heads warm!

Sizes 1-4 yr olds (5-11 yr olds)
1 pr. size 9 knitting needles
6 oz of 4 ply worsted weight yarn. (4 oz. main color, 2 oz. contrast)
(Hat measures 15" across before seaming.)

Cast on 80 sts. (88 sts.)
Work in ribbing of k1, p1 for 16 rows as follows:
*2 rows main color; 2 rows contrast color;
repeat from * 3 more times.
K1 row, P1 row, then K1 row decreasing to 72 sts (80 sts) at even intervals across row.
Work even in stockinette st for 7 rows. in main color

Now, every 8th row, decrease 8 sts across that row until just 16 sts remain. 
Knit the final 7 rows and on the 8th row
K2 together across row.  Cut a yarn tail of about 20" for the seam.
Draw remaining sts. together.  Sew seam.  Add a tassel or pompom if desired!
