Grandma Magee
Spanish Bun
 
3/4 cup butter or marg.
1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed
3 eggs separated
2 cups flour
3 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp nutmeg
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger
1 cup milk
 
 
Cream shortening and sugar well.  Add 3 egg yolks and only 1 white, well beaten. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk.  Bake in greased and lightly floured 9x9-inch panat 375 degrees for about 30 minutes. Make a meringue from remaining 2 egg whites and 1/3 cup brown sugar.  Spread on baked cake and return to 375 degree oven until meringue is lightly browned.  Best served warm.  Cut with wet knife.
