Relay For Life

pink ribbons
Overnight April 20th, 2007 at the Moapa Valley High School in Overton, Nevada.

Back in 1975 my mother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer at age 47.  She died March 28, 1983 at age 54.  Mom's sister, Aunt Mary died of metasticized Breast Cancer, on dad's side my Auntie Gail died of Breast cancer. My older sister, has fought off Malignant Melanoma, and more recently Breast cancer.  So, as you can see, I have a great need for the American Cancer Society to find a cure for my daughters.

My husband Mike and I and two of our children will be walking the Moapa Valley "Relay for Life".  In fact, Mike and I are Team Captains this year!  Yes- that means camping overnight,  feeding the walking crew, coming up with games and such for the other walkers to enjoy and to raise money for cancer research. We are doing ongoing fundraisers until the relay is over.

Many of my good online friends have been helping make items for fundraisers, like Pink Ribbon Pins (pictured above, although pins may vary), and Chemo Slumber Caps for adults and kids who have undergone chemo or other procedures, lost their hair and are in need of a bit of head warmth at night. You will find those items and others listed here.

Items for FUNDRAISING (all monies donated to ACS) - Please - All checks made out to 'AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY' (if you purchase a LUMINARY, please pay for it on a separate check from other merchandise!!)
and mail checks to:

Bev Qualheim
PO Box 427
Logandale NV 89021-0427

Be sure your name and address are on the checks so you can receive a Tax-Deductible receipt from the American Cancer Society.

***  Luminaries -
$10 each luminary. +++
IMPORTANT!!  Luminaries must be paid for on a separate check from 'merchandise' checks.

The Luminaries at RELAY FOR LIFE are special decorated bags placed on the bleachers at 'Moapa Valley High School' during Relay for Life.  Together they spell out a word like 'HOPE' and each one is lit with a candle.  They then lower the lights as we walk, and each name is reverently read out loud.  It's a beautiful and tearful few minutes at the walk.
You can remember someone who lost his or her battle to cancer, or honor someone winning the fight by purchasing a luminaria.

If you would like to have your loved ones name, perhaps a photo, or drawing on a luminary
Please
send $10 before April 10th, 2007 (to address above- made out to American Cancer Society) for each Luminary you wish to donate, what you would like to be written on them, and you can email or send a photo of a loved one, and my daughters and I will create the luminary for you.

You are also welcome to donate the monies for a luminary and we can write on it, "for all those whose lives have been touched by cancer."  or words of your choosing.

Pink Ribbon Pins  (see above) - suggested donation of $2 each.  I will be happy to choose the specific ribbons for you as all are handmade with love and each is a bit different.

Slumber Caps  -
suggested donation of $5 each.  These can be purchased for adults or children.  2 sizes available.  Each Slumber Cap has 5 rows of white near the top that represent angels watching over the person who wears the cap.

You are also welcome to 'purchase caps' and then donate them to a patient at UMC in Vegas.  You can write a special note for us to attach to a hat and we will take care of donating them to UMC.

These slumber caps are good for those who have lost their hair due to medical reasons or for the elderly who need a little extra warmth at night.
