Materials: 4 ounces of 4 ply worsted weight yarn (Scraps work well with this too)
Knitting needles size 8

Cast on 28 sts.  Work in garter st (knit every row), increasing 1 st on each side every other row 12 times - 52 sts
on needle. Work even until piece measures 15 1/2" from the starting row.  Now decrease 1 st each side every other row 12 times - 28 sts remain. Bind off.

STRAPS:
Make 2. (One for underbelly, one for underneck.)
Cast on 12 sts and work in garter st for 10" or desired length to fit under dogs belly.  Cast on 10 sts and make a strap to go across neck.  Bind off.

BUTTONS:
With double strand of yarn make loops at each end of strap for buttons,  working over loops in button hole stitch.  Sew buttons to fit, on the dog coat itself- one where the belly strap will do up, and one on neck of coat to do up the neck strap.
