"INTERNATIONAL CHARITY CRAFTS WEEK"

October 1-7th every year!

Go give to the needy
sweet Charity’s bread
for giving is living
the angel said.

But must I keep giving
again and again?
My selfish, thoughtless
answer ran.

"Oh, no," said the angel
piercing me through,
Just give ‘til the Master
stops giving to you.

October 1-7th is a special week I have set aside where crafters all over the world choose their favorite charity and they focus their efforts to making things that week for this charity. It's simple and fun and will help so many people in need!  This is a 'charity crafting week' that I created and it is not an Official Worldwide Celebration or anything, wouldn't that be nice?! :-)  It's just a week where all crafters can work on helping others.   Please let your local papers, crafting groups, online crafting groups and so forth know about this, and let's spread the good word!

Please join us in celebrating the art of handcrafting items, and the great joy of sharing those items with families in need.  You may choose any charity you wish.  Here are a few to choose from:

Charity projects for babies
Patterns for Hospital needs
More Specific Charities who need your help

Preemies who need our help

FREE Patterns for all your needs

Here are some fun ideas for having a successful Charity Crafting Week

  • Use that week to teach a child, a friend, or relative, to crochet, knit, or maybe even how to quilt, whatever you love to do.
  • Hold family gatherings and include tying a quilt for a baby, or for a shelter, as one of the events, while you picnic together.
  • As you sit on the beach this summer, take along a knitting loom or crochet and work on your project.
  • If you crochet or knit, make a bunch of hats, and have friends over to sew up the side seams and create, then add pompoms to the top of each hat. Choose a charity to give these to.
  • Encourage the ladies at your church to spend time that week to make things for your local hospital or shelter.
  • Friends could gather the kids, go to a park; and while the children play, the ladies all crochet a pair of preemie booties, or a knit a hat for a homeless shelter, or school.
  • KNITTERS NIGHT!  If you can knit in the dark, it's time to have an 'Under the Stars Knitters Night'. Gather all your knitting friends, some popped popcorn, some 'bug candles' and your knitting and sit outside enjoying the night air while you create something simple for the charity of your choice.  (And please send photos!)
  • Hold a crafting party! Everyone bring a snack, some soda pop, and some yarn and a pattern to share!  Maybe pop in a chick flick and everyone make one preemie hat, or a granny square for your fave charity while you watch.
